School Board Liaison

Location: Medicine Hat, AB

The School Board Liaison is expected to lead and mentor employees in Medicine Hat and Prairie Rose area, by providing timely support and delegating appropriate responsibilities. The Liaison also maintains a professional relationship with other staff members, schools, school boards, and drivers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct line of communication between Prairie Rose and Southland
  • Address all student and route changes that Prairie Rose has
  • Attend school/bus driver meetings
  • Regular visits to rural school areas
  • Handle all Prairie Rose parent concerns
  • Collect and deliver all monthly attendance forms to Prairie Rose
  • Keep driver list for Prairie Rose up to date
  • Ensure that drivers and staff are treated in a fair and consistent manner using the guidelines and rules set forth in the handbook and policies and procedures manual
  • Ensure Prairie Rose school routes are covered in an efficient and fair manner
  • Set up and input data accurately for driver payroll
  • Assist in answering public and driver inquiries and find solutions to concerns
  • Administrative duties (such as filing and reports); ensure all required paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ensure that the Prairie Rose safety meetings and PPG meetings, as well as any other scheduled events, are carried out regularly (as per the schedule in the driver's handbook)
  • Create/improve existing operations systems
  • Stay up to date with the status of the yards fleet; work with maintenance to ensure that all units are maintained in a timely manner and input unit data
  • Keep appropriate staff informed of any major issues, changes, concerns, etc.
  • Handle public and driver inquiries, negative or complimentary, demonstrating empathy and professionalism

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Operations and supervisory experience considered an asset
  • Ability to travel to rural areas and possibly stay over night
  • Map reading skills with a strong knowledge of the city; specifically, road systems, locations of schools, and major attractions
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally while exhibiting confidentiality and diplomacy
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of company policies/procedures
  • Expertise in organizational planning and problem solving
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office


The shift for this position is Monday - Friday, within the hours of 6:00 am - 6:00 pm (start and end time will vary depending on business needs).
