Robert Half is seeking a full time Controller in Surrey BC! The position will be based in office during training and onboarding with option to work in a hybrid structure long term.

This position with a mid size professional services organization with 200+ employees across Canada! You will part of their 50-year successful operation and legacy within the local market. The key goals of organization are to empower their employees, provide a flexible working environment, encourage ideas and innovation, create strong working relationships with all staff, and provide a supportive working environment. They take pride in their industry accomplishments, low turnover, stable and growing business operations!

As the Controller, you will lead the Finance, IT, and Administration departments and provide strategic advice and feedback to the management group.

Your day-to-day duties will include:

1) Managing the full cycle accounting functions and reviewing the work completed by the accounting staff

2) Preparing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for internal & external stakeholders

3) Reconcile accounts, post adjustment entries, and ensure accuracy of the financial data

4) Provide timely budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reports to the leadership team

5) Manage the project accounting cycle and ensure the cost is tracked and allocated to project appropriately and billed to the client in a timely manner

6) Responsible for providing strategic advice to grow the company operations, merger and acquisition opportunities and improve processes and policies

7) Manage working relationships with external stakeholders – including but not limited to auditors, accoutring firms, law firms, banks, and other financial institutions

8) Provide operational reports to the internal management team/ group and discuss KPI’s, areas of improvement and ways to increase profitability

9) Present the financial statements and reports to the Board and address all finance related inquiries

10) Manage and oversee the IT & administration team / department

11) Train, mentor, coach staff and have periodic meetings to set goals and assess performance

12) Improve internal department efficiencies, oversee system, and process automation and liaise with the IT manager to ensure all technology upgrades are made periodically 

An ideal candidate will bring:

1) 5+ years of Senior Finance level experience, working in a similar role / capacity in industry

2) CPA Designation (or CA, CMA, CGA)

3) Experience having led the finance functions for a mid size company, including being a strategic advisor for the management team

4) Experience managing and leading team of accounting staff (in person as well as remotely)

5) Experience within manufacturing, construction and other cost / project-based industries and sectors will be given preference

6) Hands-on experience preparing financial packages and reports for a Private Company i.e., solid understanding of ASPE and Canadian GAAP

7) Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems

8) Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively, and lead the change management process
