As a critical member of the Information technology team, the Senior Information Security Specialist ensures security by design approach to all IT systems and business applications as well as advanced monitoring and protection of existing systems and applications. Tasked with ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of services and customer data. The Senior Information Security Specialist will holistically evaluate security systems and processes and work closely with management, operations, and development teams on security-related matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the delivery of the Information Security Program, including Security Vulnerability Management, Incident Response, Threat Management and Monitoring, Risk Reporting and Security program initiatives
  • Work closely with company leadership in the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of enterprise-class security across all systems and services.
  • Work closely with the operations teams on the implementation and support of security systems and hardening of infrastructure
  • Participate and contribute to the security of developed software throughout its life cycle starting at the design phase, through to post-deployment and support
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on the security of third-party systems
  • Lead the design and implementation of security tools and processes, including risk assessment, infrastructure and application log analysis, monitoring, and vulnerability detection, assessment, and mitigation
  • Participate in escalated security incident response activities
  • Participate in the design and maintenance of’s security policies and procedures
  • Ensures data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.
  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures; conducts routine hardware and software audits to ensure compliance with established standards and policies and configuration guidelines.
  • Logs and response to all system issues, escalating as appropriate. Takes a proactive approach to minimizing production system outages and problems.
  • Identify, document, escalate and manage security events/incidents with strict adherence to published policy
  • Identify, report, and manage information security risk across both infrastructure and application environments
  • Facilitate security monitoring, incident response, and vulnerability assessment programs
  • Acts as part of the Security Incident Response Team to delegate for Information Security incidents
  • Researching vulnerabilities/threats and writing technical and non-technical reports for management
  • Availability after hours for escalations

Education and Experience

  • Community college diploma or university degree in computer science or a related discipline or equivalent on the job experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior information security administrator role for medium to large size companies with a complex network environment
  • Strong experience securing MS365 /O365, Unix/Linux, Microsoft Windows operating system and related technologies, including Active Directory, domain controllers, Group Policies, Exchange and MSSQL
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking and firewalls
  • Strong knowledge of intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDP)
  • Experience maintaining and supporting enterprise-class SIEM software
  • Ability to research and maintain proficiency in software, tools, techniques, countermeasures, and trends in information security, network vulnerabilities, and encryption
  • Familiarity with the tools and techniques used by security professionals including vulnerability scanners and network mapping tools required
  • Strong knowledge of client-server applications, multi-tier web applications, relational databases, firewalls, VPNs, and enterprise Anti-Virus products
  • Knowledge of Information Security principles, protocols, practices and industry standards
  • understanding of existing and emerging Information Security technologies
  • Strong in all areas of communication, able to interface with management and senior staff
  • Good technology generalist, with a good understanding of all aspects of IT especially architecture
