Do you want to work as a Controller? Robert Half Finance has a current opening for a not for profit organization, you don't want to miss. In this leadership role, you will manage an accounting and clerical department. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, handles the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluates accounting and internal control systems, and leads departmental staff. You will join the leadership team in supporting the generation of innovative ideas that are sound and progressive, challenging the status quo, and fostering creativity in your department. The full-time Controller position is situated in the Ottawa, Ontario area.

Key responsibilities

- Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis
- Respond to items beyond formal job responsibilities
- Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation
- Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash
- Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls, and most methodologies
- Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning, and implementation, as needed
- Assure client expectations are met by reviewing deliverables of self and team
- Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
- Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
- Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports
- Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Requirements
- Observant, accurate, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
- Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
- Expertise in account reconciliation
- Strong familiarity with Accounts Payable (AP)
- CPA Designation
- Ability to effectively interact, verbally and in writing
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to retain complex work directions
- Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
- Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
- Past work in technology, analytics, and management experience highly valued
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics is very beneficial
