Please note: This position will be based out of Calgary, AB. Depending on the successful candidate, consideration will be given to individuals located in Toronto, ON as well. Applications will be accepted from both locations.

 PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Senior Enterprise Architect – Business Architecture, you will be responsible for working with highly skilled enterprise architects to develop and deliver Business Architecture artefacts, Enterprise Architecture strategies, business capability roadmap, and business value analysis resulted from new capability implementations. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with business and IS leaders to produce and govern the overall business architecture artefacts, process engineering outcomes and capabilities roadmap.

Reporting to the Managing Director of Enterprise Architecture and Innovation, you will be a key participant in developing enterprise architecture practice focusing on Business Architecture that drives the alignment between CP’s business strategies and technology innovation roadmap. This position will have responsibility for developing strategies and roadmaps and making decisions and recommendations in Business Architecture domains clearly aligned with the overall Enterprise Architecture strategies.

The individual in this role should have a strong background in Business Consulting, Business Architecture, Enterprise Capability Design, Business Process Design, key Rail Industry Applications, and People leadership. You will also be expected to have a results-oriented mindset, passion for innovation and drive to foster an environment of continuous improvement.

 POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of business strategies and seek ways to apply new and emerging trends to assist CP in achieving its business objectives and strategies;
  • Develop and maintain a business capabilities roadmap in enterprise-wide viewpoints. Monitor progress towards this roadmap and identify changes to initiatives/projects as needed to achieve it;
  • Drive Business Architecture framework development, including business impacts analysis, opportunity identification, creating value cases, and business innovation portfolio development;
  • Develop enterprise architecture artefacts; including business capability decomposition, process definitions, and mapping with information/application architectures;
  • Identify opportunities for the development of cross-functional solutions that combine knowledge of the target business architecture, general technological options, and process facilitation techniques;
  • Conduct business impact reviews as a standard procedure to ensure alignment between business and technology solutions when designing the future-state of application functions;
  • Provide guidelines for other business analysts on Business Architecture roadmap and methods;
  • Provide holistic business capability views and directions to IS and Business leads as needed to ensure alignment between business goals and IS project’s expected outcomes;
  • Work with the Portfolio management team to ensure that all proposed projects remain aligned with the overall Business Architecture roadmap.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or Technology;
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in Business Consulting or Information Technology roles;
  • 10+ years of hands on experience and working knowledge in Business Architecture or Business Capability development; 
  • Ability to quantify the business impacts/values of technology investments — both financial and nonfinancial;
  • Demonstrated ability to assess scalable technology solutions that deliver business results;
  • Ability to design and construct business processes, functions and organizational structures;
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills; ability to articulate concepts for a variety of projects;
  • Ability to analyze business needs of a project with the needs of the overall enterprise priority;
  • Ability to work with business stakeholders to modify business practices to take full advantage of innovative ideas;
  • Self-starter with high motivation and passion who thrives in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment with the ability to adapt to change;

  • Experience in working with an industry standard EA frameworks/methodology;
  • Previous working knowledge of transportation industry, specifically railroad industry;
  • Passion for customer experience and quality;

  • Proven ability to cope with conflict, stress and crisis situations;
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills with business, technical groups and suppliers;

Additional knowledge and experience in following architecture domains will be plus:

  • Business capability development leveraging business transformation skills such as; business strategy development, business performance analysis, strategic planning, program management, change enablement, value architecture, business case creation, and organization structure design; 
  • Enterprise application development leveraging modern development platforms in Cloud environments. Skills should include service-oriented architecture, web and mobile development, micro services and API design, database design, application integration, UI design and development, BPM/workflow design, business rules / decision management, Rapid Application tools, Agile, and DevOps;
  • SaaS, and SAP ERP skills and experience in multi-cloud environment. Skills should include in-depth knowledge of SaaS and SAP ECC and SAP S4 architecture including evaluation, migration, configuration, and integration of SaaS and SAP ERP solutions.

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
