The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testingmechanical components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge ofengineering principles. This may include fabricating, operating, installing, orrepairing design products such as motors, instruments, control panels, andother machines.

Roles & Responsibilities
Provide technical design support to the engineering department withspecific focus on mechanical design engineering.

Take a leading role in project execution.

Coach, mentor, and lead project teams, including Engineersin Training.

Design, develop, manufacture and test machines such asmotors, tools, instruments, and other mechanical devices.

Specialize in energy systems, applied mechanics, machinedesign, manufacturing, plant engineering, and maintenance.

Design and develop HVAC equipment with components such aschilled water coils, heat exchangers, humidifiers, gas furnaces, and DXsystems.

Review, evaluate, and improve upon engineering schematicsand specifications prepared by consultants, ensuring designs are safe,efficient, effective, and practical.

Conduct final inspection and recommend acceptance,improvements, or rejection of completed designs.

Create and implement standard specification languages andprocedures for mechanical engineering projects.

Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimizeprocesses to provide seamless quality of engineering services.

Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocolsand analyzing statistical data.

Act as project manager on mechanical engineering projects.

Assist with the development of project plans, projectcosting, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians,designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.

Collaborate with other departments (e.g. Shop Floor,Applications, Purchasing, IT, etc.) to ensure project success.

Evaluate various mechanical products under consideration forpurchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Determine budget requirements for mechanical systems andsubmit budgetary recommendations.

Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, andinternational standards and legislation.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Mechanical Engineering degree (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.).

Five or more years of related experience.

3+ years of related experience in HVAC design required,including knowledge in equipment and system selection, design, and control.Additional experience in metal fabrication and/or manufacturing is an asset.

Proficiency with AutoCAD and other 3-D imaging software isessential.

Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departmentsspanning multiple disciplines.

Experience designing man-machine interfaces.

Competence in designing according to ISO 9001 standards.

Working knowledge of risk analysis and relevant legislativecompliance.

Proven track record in managing large project budgets.

Ability to identify key financial performance indicators andtheir relationship with project indicators.

Practical experience with risk management, product testing,capability studies, and control plans.

Training and knowledge of Six Sigma techniques, Kaizen, andLean Manufacturing are desirable.
