Maintenance Manager / Journeyperson
Location: Edmonton, AB
SOUTHLAND is currently seeking a Maintenance Manager / Journeyperson who will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance activities of the Edmonton shops, as well as the maintenance efforts in Northern Alberta. He/she is an on-call resource for operations. The Maintenance Manager / Journeyperson must achieve set standards of maintenance within budgeted costs and in accordance with company policy and procedure. This role is directly accountable to the General Manager (and indirectly to the Director of Maintenance) for the effective utilization of shop facilities, equipment and manpower, and the maintenance, efficiency, and safety of buses serviced.
Position Requirements
- Journeyperson Ticket (Heavy Duty or Automotive)
- Valid Driver's License (Class 1 or 2 considered an asset)
- CVIP - Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program License (Or ability to obtain a BC license)
- Minimum 5 years of Journeyperson related experience (Heavy Duty or Automotive)
- Bus experience considered an asset
- Exposure to working on diesel engines
- Analytical and trouble-shooting skills
- Computer proficiency and in particular experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, MS Excel, Word)
- Prior experience with fleet management software is considered an asset
- Experience in maintenance planning and implementing standards and controls in a fleet environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to build relationships with external suppliers, maintenance shops, and regulatory bodies
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of maintenance, as required
- Work to meet budget and equipment forecasts
- Monitor manpower skill levels to ensure operating requirements are met and report on performance
- Ability to manage satellite maintenance and operations
- Assume accountability for each employee's quality of work and productivity
- Coach and mentor shop personnel and administer progressive discipline to correct behavior as necessary
- Monitor key cost areas such as warranties, consumption, and inventory levels of parts and supplies
- Schedule sequence of maintenance services and semi-annual inspections on buses to optimize balances between operating requirements, downtime of revenue equipment, and overall shop productivity
- Maintain and manage outside vendor and customer relationships.
- Manage Facility Maintenance requirements and ensure compliance
- Record and report accident damage to equipment and any/all personal injuries
- Fulfill service requirements and advise of maintenance items resulting from driver abuse
- Ensure the shop and equipment complies with company and governmental safety procedures and regulations
- Assist in establishing time standards, productivity measures, budgets, and forecasts
- Manage and process payroll for maintenance staff
- Maintain high level of awareness of potential task related hazards
- Check that work orders are accurate and appropriate for work performed; clarify work with dispatch, as required
