Safety Engineering Specialist - On behalf of our client in the Technology Sector, Procom is seeking a Safety Engineering Specialist

Safety Engineering Specialist Job Description

  • To prepare the System Safety Plan and coordinate the safety activities and deliverables throughout the entire system lifecycle
  • To perform hazard identification and hazard analysis studies
  • To define technical and functional safety requirements for train control systems
  • To analyze and evaluate design compliance with safety requirements and safety principles
  • To conduct safety analyses and verify that the train control systems are safe
  • To record and manage hazards in the Hazard Log, assess safety risks, review hazard mitigations, evaluate the design and verification and validation evidence, and track hazards throughout close-out process
  • To review the adequacy and completeness of the safety evidence, including test and verification reports, and produce the Safety Case

Safety Engineering Specialist Responsibilities

  • Works with Engineering departments and integrated project team as a team player with the view that others are your customers
  • Decides best practices to perform the work, and mentors and supervises junior staff
  • Manages and schedules daily/weekly activities within budget and time allowances given
  • Participates in engineering activities ensuring the "built-in safety" of client's communications-based train control systems
  • Utilizes industry recognized hazard and safety analysis techniques
  • Be part of a team that is responsible for the timely and effective execution of the safety management and safety engineering activities throughout the system life cycle
  • Extensive experience with safety analysis and reliability techniques
  • Familiar with safety standards (military and/or international safety standards)
  • Experience with or exposure to safety/mission-critical systems design, and exposure to hazard, fault-tree and failure modes and effects analysis, statistical modeling and analysis of complex software/hardware/human interface systems are assets
  • Safety Case/Safety Report/Safety Certification
  • Safety standards – CENELEC, MIL, IEC, ARP
  • Safety Management System
  • Safety concepts – system, software, hardware

Safety Engineering Specialist Must Have Skills

  • B.Sc. Electrical Engineering; Computer Science or equivalent
  • + 5 years’ experience in real-time safety critical systems, train control systems or equivalent in other industry, such as aircraft, medical, nuclear, FTA/ETA
  • Specific experience in Systems Safety over 3 years, Hazard analysis techniques – HAZID/HAZOP, PHA, SHA, FnHA
  • Safety analysis techniques – FMEA/FMECA
  • A detailed knowledge of system requirements definition/design, safety and risk analysis
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral
  • Computer skills, MS Office; DOORS, FTA tools
