Pharmaceutical Support Representative

The purpose of this position is to assist clients (Pharmacists & Pharmacy Technicians) with formulation requests and compounding inquiries.

The opportunity:

Customer Service

  • Receive and interpret client inquiries; through email or telephone communication.
  • Reply to questions from internal departments.
  • Verify client membership status (member, non-member, corporate member, etc.).
  • Verify if formula or information required to respond to the client is available in current databases; provide immediate troubleshooting when possible.
  • Enter client customized formula requests and submit to Senior Formulation Chemist within the department to create, when necessary.
  • Redirect calls to appropriate department within the company, when required.
  • Record, file, track, log and maintain the following: Formulation Database, Q&A Database, Verbal Log Database, TSS memberships (formula downloads, customized formulas and compounding inquiries).
  • Perform all necessary research to troubleshoot client requests.
  • Set up telephone consultations between clients and outside consultants, when necessary.

Technical Writing

  • Perform scientific literature searches to support internal/external requests and compile researched literature into our standardized Q&A template for distribution to clients.
  • Assist with the development of annual student pharmacist compounding competitions; CAPSI and SPCC.

Formula Review

  • Assist by providing preliminary research to formulation chemist on customized formula requests.
  • Assist with a final review in the formula customization process; review information on safety, efficacy, stability, clinical/therapeutic data, legal parameters, chemical interactions, mathematical calculations, etc.
  • Communicate with the formulation chemist and approving pharmacist on any modifications to existing formulas.
  • Compile all pertinent information for the customized formula in an electronic file.
  • Advise clients accordingly on formula revisions/updates.

Other tasks

  • Verify and maintain chemical/equipment inventory for the non-sterile program.
  • Facilitate non-sterile programs, as required.
  • Additional tasks may be called upon.

Travel: Up to two (2) weeks per year to attend tradeshows, programs, training sessions.

Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of regulations and guidelines of the following is considered an asset: USP, FDA, DEA, Health Canada, state and provincial boards.
  • Excellent communication skills; fluent English and intermediate French (oral & written) required.
  • Strong listening skills, very customer focused and professional.
  • Proven abilities to apply good judgement, ethical practice and decision making skills.
  • Detail oriented, ability to apply analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as in a team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office; Word, Outlook and Excel, required, and Powerpoint, an asset.
Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science related field.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years experience working in Customer Service and/or as a Pharmacy Lab Technician.
