QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should be interested in working with sophisticated radar, communication, telephone and computer systems.
Physical strength, manual dexterity and the ability to perform under stressful conditions are a must.
TRAINING
The first stage of training for all new recruits is the four-month Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) course at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.
Upon successful completion of the BMQ, Basic Military Occupational Qualification (MOC), training starts at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE) in Kingston, Ontario. The first part takes seven months and covers a wide range of basic skills involving theories, all types of devices, power sources, circuits, conductors, cables, computers, peripherals and more.
ATIS Tech apprentice level 3 training comprises the second portion of BOQ training lasting approximately five months. Trainees will learn how to perform technical administration, repair printed circuit boards and maintain automated information systems, switchboards, terminal equipment, audio and video systems, airfield navigational aids, meteorological systems, communications, crypto systems and radar systems.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
ATIS Technicians may be posted at bases in Canada, the USA or locations throughout the world. They perform in operation centres, static and mobile workshops, and in extreme weather conditions. Appropriate environmental clothing and equipment are provided. Support for the health, safety and morale of personnel is emphasized and readily available.
