QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
You must possess a Biomedical Engineering Technologist diploma or the equivalent, and want to work on a variety of sophisticated medical equipment and systems, both independently and as part of a highly technical team. You must meet Canadian Forces medical standards and successfully complete a selection process that includes interviews and a wide range of exams.
The CF has introduced a series of recruitment allowances for eligible NCM applicants entering the Regular Force.
- $10,000 signing bonus for NCMs with a post-secondary diploma or certificate
- $20,000 signing bonus for civilian trade-qualified NCMs
- $20,000 signing bonus for Military Occupation-qualified NCMs
These allowances apply to new recruits, re-enrolees and Reserve Force members who are transferred to this target Military Occupation group.
Depending on their qualification level, many recruits are also eligible for incentives such as promotion to the rank of Acting Corporal immediately after the successful completion of basic training.
TRAINING
The first stage of training for all new recruits is the 13-week Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) course at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.
Upon completion of the BMQ, Biomedical Electronics Technologists are assigned to their first posting. After one year of on-job training, they are considered for early promotion.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Biomedical Electronics Technologists work in a field hospital or an Advanced Surgical Centre (ASC) that could be deployed anywhere in the world. They may also work on a ship, where they perform repairs and maintenance. They are also given the opportunity to travel within Canada. They must make maintenance visits to all medical establishments within the Canadian Forces on a regular basis.
