Job Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP), you must have completed high school with the appropriate university-oriented credits, or be in Grade 12 in an appropriate program with full expectation of graduation. Four years of service after university is mandatory.

To qualify for direct entry as an officer, you must have a university degree and have high school leaving (or better) mathematics and science in an academic or general program. All applicants must meet CF medical standards and successfully complete a thorough selection process.

TRAINING
The first stage of training for new recruits is the four-month Basic Officer Training Plan (BOTP) at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

A second-language training course is available, depending on your proficiency.

Upon completion of BOTP, AEC Officers attend the Basic Aerospace Control Course at the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Control Operations (CFSACO) in Cornwall, Ontario, for approximately seven months. Training covers control techniques for air defence and air traffic control, theoretical and simulator training, airborne weapons and ground control systems and radar, meteorology, radiotelephony, air regulations and navigation orders. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
AEC Officers will experience prolonged periods of intense operational activity. They might work underground, in isolated/semi-isolated sites, in the air, on a ship or in the field. A windowless control facility with low ambient light levels is the most common working environment. Appropriate training, environmental clothing and equipment are provided. Support for the health, safety and morale of AEC Officers is emphasized and readily available.
